Conclusion

AHPID will continue to advocate for themselves through education, protests, petitions, and community or group-building, much as they have in the past, but will undoubtedly face challenges in the days to come. How will we band together in a way that appreciates and respects our differences, but draws on a united front? How can we span the distances between each other in the post-Trump and COVID-19 era?

I believe we can move forward through a better understanding of the activists that came before, better inclusivity and increased solidarity, and an appreciation for the diversity and uniqueness of all of our experiences.

“She was neither black nor white,

neither cherished nor vanquished,

just another squatter in her own bamboo grove

minding her poetry—

when one day heaven was unmerciful,

and a chasm opened where she stood.”

(Marilyn Chin, “How I Got That Name”)
