Timeline

1950s and early 1960s: Rape survivors were expelled from Ohio State

1970s: Rape prevention workshops arose on campus, facilitated by Women Against Rape

1975: Women Student Services office established, which focused on women’s student initiatives and sexual violence education

1980s: Throughout the decade, workshops were held on sexual assault prevention, task forces were created, and self-defense training was offered

1983: REPP was created following a gang rape in a residence hall

1984: Men’s Curriculum Task Force created

1986: REPP workshops held in Columbus, Cincinnati, and Kent

1990s: Self-defense workshops continue, as well as conferences and workshops for sexual assault education and prevention. Safety programs are offered during Welcome Week

2000s: Around 2007, REPP existed as Sexual Violence Education and Support under the Student Wellness Center

2015: Implementation of Buckeyes ACT, SVES restructured as Sexual Civility and Empowerment (SCE)

2016: Mandatory sexual assault education training for incoming freshmen

March 2018: Sexual Civility and Empowerment (SCE) office under review

Spring 2019: Sexual assault education and prevention is moved to the Office of Student Life, rebranded as “Relationship Education and Violence Prevention.” It is announced that there will be two SARNCO (Sexual Assault Response Network of Central Ohio) representatives permanently working on OSU’s campus
